Biasar-Kullu Mountain Biking - [27th April - 1st May 2016]

Biasar - Kullu Mountain Biking in the Beautiful Valleys of Kullu through Apple Orchards... Route is through winding roads covered with Scenic views, Water streams crossing the path & descending on long winding hairpins...

Purpose of this expedition is to introduce the YHAI members to Mountain Biking as an outdoor adventure sport & also to make use of it as a Green transport in cities reducing congestion n pollution... On the way there are small villages situated between beautiful Mountains n Greenery...

Decided a week ago for this expedition, started from Delhi by Volvo (Swagatam Travels) in the night @ 9.00 pm...
I reached to the base camp Dobhi on 27th March in the morning at about 9.00 AM...

This is Dining area...
When I reached, I got Amazed to see the base camp where tents were arranged in a huge open area surrounded by Mountains n Greenery all over with Beautiful scenic views...
Very Neat, Clean & Spacious camp site...

At this camp site there was an arrangement of two Expeditions simultaneously... One for Nature Study camp for teenagers & other for Biasar - Kullu cycling for which I have enrolled...
All students were moving for their acclimatisation walk...
Few memorable clicks with the students...
Captured memories with the teachers from Gujarat...

27th April  - Reporting at the Base camp Dobhi [4800 ft] / Orientation
Day 1 - As seats were less for 26th & 27th reporting dates, these two batches got clubbed... so my 1st day of reporting & 2nd day of Orientation was same...

I got my tent, where I met my group mate Malini... I came to know that there is a group of only 6 in which we are only 2 girls!!!

Also it was really surprising to know that Malini got married just 2 days back & the very same day of their wedding this newly married couple (Malini & Masoom) started their journey from Kolkata to Kullu just for cycling expedition!!! Very rare people can think or dare to start their journey with such kind of expeditions - Hats off to this Lovely couple!!!

After having breakfast, our group of 6 went for acclimatization walk to the nearest mountain with our camp leader Ms. Pushpa...

As we started walking up away we could see an aerial view of our camp site... Very nice trail to walk from where we can capture Beautiful views of the Spectacular Mountains!!!

Came back before lunch time; had lunch as per the scheduled time; had some rest & then afternoon by 3 O'clock we had Orientation by our field director Sumeet... Also we got basic training for Safety n shifting gears n then there was a distribution of cycles...

Had tea & then in the evening we had cycle ride practice in our camp area itself...

After Orientation few of us went to the market for shopping...

Enjoyed walking on the roads surrounde by the Greenery & the Eye Catching Mountains!!!

Beautiful views of cloud while sunset...

After having dinner there was a camp fire with our little masters who came for Nature & Study camp... There was Singing, Dancing & Acts by talented group of students, who came from different parts of the India... Day concluded with Bournvita...

28th April - Biking to BALUPADAR - [6000 ft / 11 kms ]
Day 2 - Next day early morning we woke up at about 5.30 AM & had tea... Then after having breakfast n packed lunch we started for our first camp BALUPADAR at about 9.00 AM... lil down hill on a fine road, then uphill through small small villages!!! Got very tired but enjoyable route with beautiful scenic views all the way...

On the way we met Beautiful localites, specially kids in the school...

Then reached to the lunch point near beautiful riverside, where we all had lunch on a big stone on the bank of the river... Nice natural arrangements to sit as well as for drinking water...

Lunch point was very near to our Camp site, so we had to cover very short distance after lunch... By the afternoon we reached to Balupadar... Nice campsite like homestay with one of the Lovely family...

Spent valuable time in the lap of mountains by just sitting in an open area of the house... Had tea n then few of us went for evening walk... I preferred to sit idle to enjoy the nature of this beautiful place... Beautiful people with beautiful hearts - Unforgettable moments...

Then had dinner n bournvita as per the schedule & time to sleep...

29th April - Biking to BIASAR - [7000 ft / 12 kms ]
Day 3 - Next day we woke up early in the morning, had tea n breakfast - again spent good amount of time by just sitting in an open area with this family n friends...
Started at about 10 O'clock in the morning, this day route was very tedious as it was total uphill for about 6-7 Kms... But there were beautiful views in between this route... So it was balancing our tiredness...

Had lunch at the lunch point midway... After taking some rest we started for our next n last camp...
It was total downhill till the camp... So enjoyed a lot with lots of breaks in between...

This time camp site was very disappointing!!! First of all we had to lift our cycles onto our shoulders to keep it inside the camp area... In addition to that when we entered we could see only Kitchen but we were not able see our tents... after walking few miles, we could see our tents on other corner n wash rooms were far away lil downside from the tents... no plane area at all - to go from kitchen to tents or to wash rooms... it means we couldn't even think to go out of our tent after sunset... At one point while going towards the kitchen for having tea, I was about to fall!!! Moreover we were told that Bear comes to this place!!! I was feeling like to run away from this place, but no other option :(
Only good thing there was - Super delicious dinner with Gulab-jamun :) n also breakfast n packed lunch of next day - special Thanks to all the cooks... but I couldn't have it properly as I was not well that day :( Anyhow we spent big night at that place...

30th April - Biking to DOBHI base camp - 35 kms via Bekhli downhill
Day 4 - Next day early morning, after having tea n breakfast with packed lunch we started back to our base camp Dobhi... We were told it would be total downhill, but it was not!!! Only first few approx 25 Kms, it would have been downhill, but then last few Kms. it was terrible!
It was uphill till Monastery (Dhakpo Shedrupling Monastery), based at a village Kais... As I was not well from last day, it was going very difficult for me... But I had to do it!!!
After seeing this beautiful Monastery n specially Panipuris, all my tiredness gone away :)

I ate lots of Panipuris as I was very hungry... Then visited monastery inside - very peaceful & beautiful place... spent lots of time over there as it was very near to our Base camp...

Started from this place, it was down hill n then plain road by crossing through one of the huge bridge... Finally we reached to our base camp by the evening... All of us except me, left the base camp same day... I was feeling very sad, but I had to stay back that day as I was supposed to go for other trekking expedition for Chanderkhani pass next day... And best part was that the base camp (15 Miles) for Chanderkhani pass was just about 15-20 Kms away from Dobhi base camp...
In the evening we had delicious dinner n then one more camp fire by students of Nature n Study group...

I got Certificate for the completion of this Expedition by our Field director, Sumeet...

1st May - Group Disbursed after breakfast
Day 6 - Next day I had nothing to do, so got up in a relaxed mood... After having breakfast I started my journey to next base camp - 15 Miles for ChanderKhani pass...
